Winger Wes Goosen won Scottish Building Society's Player of the Month in December after putting in a run of impressive performances that saw Edinburgh claim victories over Ulster, Castres Olympique and Glasgow Warriors.

As Edinburgh Rugby's Main Club Partner, we donated £500 to Wes's chosen cause. Wes selected local side Corstorphine Cougars minis section to receive the prize money as the club supported him at the Club Appreciation Night held last year.

As Edinburgh Rugby's Club Appreciation Night approached, the club reached out to Wes and asked if he'd like to be a part of their 'team' and represent the club at the match. Recognising he was new to the country they wanted to make him feel welcome and included. This kind gesture stuck with Wes and he wanted to thank the club for their support.

Goosen said: “This is my little thank you for supporting me at the Club Appreciation Night – hopefully their minis section can put the £500 generously donated by Scottish Building Society to good use!”

On 17th January 2024 Wes visited the club, along with Edinburgh Rugby players Nathan Sweeney and Connor Boyle, to see some of the youth teams train and speak to the volunteer coaches and helpers who make this club special.

Wes said " their gesture to give me socks and support me when I didn't have a club here felt like I had a home away from home, so to thank them for this gesture I wanted to give back to the club".

Ross Taylor, Cougars Mini Coach said ' the donation will allow us to buy more kit, we've been running the minis for over 10 years now and the growing club means we need to supply more kit and equipment to develop the players'.
