The Scottish Building Society Troon Branch are one of the sponsors of the Troon Tortoise 10k, where every year we present a 'Community Award'. This year we had the honour of presenting the award to Claire Blackburn. George McGregor of Troon Tortoises also came along to the Troon Branch to show support for the award winner.

The reason for Claire Blackburn's nomination is below:

I grew up in Loans and after some years away moved back to Troon with my family 4 years ago. I have been disabled since birth and use a wheelchair. Now I am in my 40s I realised I needed to do something to get more active and that's where ParkRun came in!  I was excited to hear that ParkRun was coming to Troon and would be a flat accessible course. I love being able to take part in a 5k along with others of every ability. Everyone has been so welcoming and it really feels inclusive. This is also where I became involved with the Troon Tortoises who have also been really encouraging.  I hope to continue to improve my fitness and aim to take part in longer distances in the future!
