Mortgage Administrator - Edinburgh  

£16,000 - £20,000 dependent upon experience

A Mortgage Administrator is required to join our busy Mortgage Operations team. This is a varied role which will require the individual to:

  • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Providing administrative support to the Underwriting Team for new and existing mortgages cases.
  • Writing and issuing correspondence to mortgage applicants/holders and other involved parties.
  • Providing updates to relevant parties concerning the progress of mortgage applications.
  • Producing and issuing mortgage offer documents to all relevant parties.
  • Assisting with administration of the release of funds for new mortgage business to solicitors and borrowers.
  • Provide administrative assistance including collecting and processing payments from borrowers.
  • Checking and executing legal documentation received by the Society for the administration and redemption of mortgage accounts.
  • Assisting with the provision of Management Information to the Head of Lending as and when required.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of the Society’s Mortgage Manual and other Operations policy and guidance documents as required.
  • Administering Title Deeds and associated documents including completing standard and non-standard correspondence and documentation for issue to solicitors and borrowers, making and receiving telephone calls in connection with queries of Title Deeds and associated documentation.
  • Calculating monthly payments due to the insurers and commission due to the Society on creditor, and mortgage indemnity insurance policies, reconciling these with the appropriate general ledger.
  • Reviewing exception reports produced, and request branches to take remedial action where appropriate.
  • Filing of Head Office paperwork for mortgage accounts ensuring that the filing system is accurately maintained.

Skills required for this role include:

  • Strong communication & customer service skills

  • A confident, professional telephone manner
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritise and multi task
  • PC skills including Word and Excel
  • Should have or be willing to undertake MAPC.

You must have experience in a role with a strong customer service and administration focus. Experience in a financial services organisation is desirable, as is experience in a similar role.

A Mortgage Underwriter is required to join our busy Mortgage Operations team. This is a varied and challenging role which will require the individual to:

  • Assess individual mortgage applications through branch and online channels, approving or declining within authorised mandate.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Society’s branch network, brokers/IFAs, Mortgage Administration colleagues & Business Development Managers on matters relating to mortgage applications, including the Society’s products and lending criteria.
  • Refer applications outside authorised mandate, with recommendation on whether application should be approved or declined.
  • Authorise the issue of mortgage offer papers.
  • Complete checks to enable release of funds for mortgage completion.
  • Carry out fraud investigations as and when required.
  • Regularly review mortgage procedures and actively participate in projects to improve processes and procedures within Underwriting and Mortgage Operations.
  • Assist with the provision of Management Information to the Head of Lending as and when required.
  • Provide colleagues with training and mentoring on end to end mortgage processing, review of supporting documents and production of offer documents.
  • Management of serious arrears cases and repossessions as required.
  • Assist with other areas of departmental work as requested by the Mortgage Operations Manager.
  • Comply with the Senior Managers & Certification Regime and all other regulatory requirements.

Qualifications: Maths and English. CeMap is essential; additional qualification(s) in financial services is/are desirable.

Extensive experience in financial services is essential, together with previous experience in mortgage underwriting.
