A Finance & Central Functions Director is required to join our Senior Management Team. Reporting to the Chief Executive this is a varied and challenging role. The job holder will lead the Finance, IT, Lending, Facilities, Change and Mortgage Operations teams. They will be accountable for the financial management and performance of the Society within the framework set out by the Board of Directors/Regulators, and the ongoing development of the Society’s Operational Resilience framework.

The job-holder will be an Executive Director and deputise for the Chief Executive Officer as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy

  • In conjunction with Chief Executive Officer, lead the development and implementation of the Society’s Strategy and Corporate Plan.
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of the Society’s Risk Appetite, leading the ‘first line’ perspective in relation to Financial Risk and Credit Risk.
  • Own the development of the Society’s IT strategy and Operational Resilience strategy, to align with regulatory developments in this area. 
  • Lead the Society’s change team driving implementation of key business change initiatives.

Policy, Processes & Systems

  • Accountable for the ongoing development of systems, policies and procedures within Finance and Central Functions to ensure optimal performance.
  • Ensure that the Society maintains adequate cyber security defences and has robust plans in respect of business resilience, keeping pace with continuing regulatory developments in this area.

Members

  • Ensure the delivery of excellent service to both Members and Brokers via the Mortgage Operations team.

Governance & Control

  • Provide technical finance advice and support to the Board and Senior Management team.
  • Fulfil the Society’s SMF2 function under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime and act as the key contact with the PRA on finance- related matters. Fulfil the Society’s SMF24 function under the Regime with accountability for managing and ensuring operational continuity and resilience of the internal operations, systems and technology of the Society.
  • Chair ALCO (Asset and Liability Committee) and RCC (Retail Credit Committee), with oversight responsibility for the ALCO and RCC packs.  Member of Operational Risk Committee.
  • Accountable for specific risks from the Society’s Risk Register that have been delegated by the Board.
  • Overall responsibility for the on-going maintenance of Society premises including Health and Safety activities within Head Office and Branches.
  • Overall responsibility for Business Continuity and Outsourcing within the Society, ensuring new developments such as EBA guidelines on Outsourcing are appropriately addressed.

Business Development

  • Accountable for monitoring and reporting on the Society’s performance, leading improvement initiatives and developing new strategies as required.
  • Support the development of sales strategy with sound advice on Financial and Credit risk impacts and appropriate development of policy as required.
  • Lead the strategic development of both management information and financial reporting.

People Development

  • Drive a continuous improvement culture throughout the Finance and Central Functions teams, developing and managing teams through inspiring leadership to achieve optimal performance.

Board

  • Executive Director and Board member, undertaking Board related activities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience required for this role:

  • Degree educated qualified accountant.
  • Meeting the requirements of the Senior Managers and Certification Regime.
  • Demonstrable experience of working at strategic level within a finance function, preferably with financial services experience.
  • Sound comprehensive financial management and control experience.
  • The ability to challenge and analytically review financial data and business information.
  • Proven excellence in delivery of reliable financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of the lending and savings industry.
  • Knowledge and experience of treasury management.
  • Knowledge and experience of risk management.
  • Sound understanding of the benefits of mutuality.

A Society Secretary is required to join our Senior Management Team. Reporting to the Chief Executive the role holder will act as Company Secretary for the Society and its subsidiary - SBS Mortgages Ltd, and identify all relevant legal requirements affecting the Society.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing support to the Chairman and the Board of Directors, including timetabling and arranging Board meetings, liaising with Directors and ensuring the timely distribution of Board papers, advising the Board (through the Chairman) on corporate governance matters
  • Attending all Board and Board Committee meetings and preparing agenda, papers, and minutes for approval
  • Arranging Board induction and training
  • Membership of the Management Risk Committees as required
  • Organising the Annual General Meeting including preparation of all relevant documentation, organisation of the mailing to members, overseeing receipt and scrutiny of proxy votes and counting of votes at the AGM itself.
  • Assisting with the narrative sections of the Report & Accounts and Summary Financial Statement.
  • Undertaking regulatory reporting, to include: SMR Conduct Breaches, Close Links and uploading of the Annual Report.
  • Processing regulatory submissions.
  • Preparing Agency Agreements.
  • Advising on compliance with the Senior Managers and Certification Regime, maintaining SM&CR Responsibilities Map and Statements. Act as a key point of contact with the regulators.
  • Overall responsibility for ensuring that the Society identifies all relevant legislative requirements and complies with all such requirements.
  • Ensuring that appropriate corporate insurance arrangements are in place.
  • Providing ad hoc advice on contracts.
  • Oversight of the instruction of external solicitors where required.
  • Managing and developing the Secretarial Assistant.

Qualifications and Experience required for this role:

Essential

  • Degree in a Finance or Legal discipline
  • Proven compliance experience
  • Proven financial services experience – preferably building society sector
  • Proven understanding of relevant legislation and regulation
  • Proven experience of strategic decision making

An IT Systems Administrator is required to join our IT Team. This is a varied and challenging role which will require the individual to be accountable for the successful delivery of high availability infrastructure services for internal staff and external Society members; deliver a stable, scalable and supported infrastructure platform; balance security requirements with business needs while ensuring operational compliance with relevant legislation, regulation and security standards such as ISO27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, PSN, PCI DSS and GDPR.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Technical & Support

  • User administration (setup and maintaining accounts)
  • VMWare Virtual Server and View Virtual Desktop Administration and Support
  • Active Directory Management DHCP/DNS/Certificates etc.
  • Quickly arrange repair for hardware in occasion of hardware failure
  • Install software and trial new products as needed
  • Provide business resilience support for our workplace recovery site
  • Maintain backup and recovery policy
  • Maintain best practices for server backups
  • Monitor overall systems performance
  • Monitor network link stability
  • Monitor server application services
  • Update systems as new version of OS and application software comes out
  • Maintain policies and best practices for the use of the end user computer system and network access
  • Write and maintain system documentation & procedures
  • Develop and maintain password and identity management policies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any support problems
  • Provide telephone, email and face to face support for end users
  • Prioritise and manage open calls simultaneously
  • Establish a good working relationship with colleagues, third party support teams and external consultants
  • Provide support of Society telephony hardware and systems
  • Provide Audio\Visual equipment support for Society events, both internal and external
  • In the rare event of unforeseen systems failure, work out of hours at short notice to assist with the recovery of the system(s) affected.
  • Travel within the working day as required (and at short notice)
  • Undertake occasional overnight stays.

Security

  • Microsoft server and desktop patching on a monthly basis.
  • VMware patching on a quarterly basis.
  • Penetration testing remediation as directed by external security tests
  • Anti-Virus and malware application maintenance
  • Cyber Security leadership
  • Review existing Information Security audit and IT risk registers and implement remedial actions to address security issues.
  • Creating policies and practises to ensure the information security strategy is aligned with business objectives, to proactively reduce the risk and likelihood of any growing cyber threats or attack.
  • Identify and evaluate business and technology risks, internal controls to mitigate risk

Operations

  • Monitor and test Society backups

Administration

  • Ensuring that print services are always available to staff.
  • Assist with IT asset management
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Computer recycling and arranging for the safe disposal hardware
  • Arrange for physical data destruction
  • Capacity management
  • VPN remote access administration

Qualifications and Experience required for this role:

Essential: 

A relevant IT degree level qualification or proof of comparable experience.

Desirable:

Possession of one or more relevant IT qualifications (e.g. CompTIA A+/Network+, relevant Microsoft certifications, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, VMware VCP-DCV)

Essential:

  • High level of literacy/communication skills, capable of independently producing documentation written to a high, professional standard.
  • Strong understanding of core technologies used at the Society, including:Windows Server 2016, Exchange 2016 on prem, Windows 10, Active Directory.
  • Skills in other systems to include: WSUS, DFS, SAN technologies, Veeam, IIS, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, vSphere 6.x,  VMware View 7.x
