General Information

History

Scotland's first ever Building Society started life in March 1848 as the Edinburgh Property Investment Company, changing its name to Scottish Building Society in 1929. Since those early days, there has been a substantial increase in the number of customers and the range of products offered, matching Scotland's developing social and economic needs, whilst remaining true to the original tradition of thrift and careful money-management.

The Society

Our status as a mutual provides our members with confidence, secure in the knowledge that as owners of the business, the Scottish is being run in their best interests. Your Society has over 30,000 members and continues to grow as more people are becoming aware of the mutual sector and what it represents.

As well as looking after members' funds and offering borrowers an excellent range of mortgage products through our six branches and the website, we also have 72 Agency offices located around Scotland from as far north as Orkney to Galashiels in the Borders.
